Questions we hear after a storm

Do I need an inspection before the power comes back?

In most cases, yes. After a flood or a service repair the city or county has to approve the work before the power company reconnects. We schedule the inspection and meet the inspector. Ask your building department what it requires for your address.

Who calls the power company?

You do, first, because the account is yours and they need your ticket number. We call them with you when the repair is done and the inspection is approved, if you want us to.

Can a panel that got wet be dried and kept?

Equipment that was under water is generally replaced. We check what stayed above the waterline, tell you what we found and put it on the estimate line by line.

Will you work with my insurance company?

We give you a written, line-by-line estimate and photos of what we found. Your insurance company decides what it covers, and we cannot say what that will be.

Do I need a permit?

Service entrance, meter base and panel work usually needs one. We pull it, and the fee is its own line on your estimate. The owner confirms what the city and county require.

How high should the panel and meter go?

It depends on the flood elevation for your address and on what your county asks for. We read the flood map with you before we draw anything, and we write the height on the estimate.

Who owns the meter?

The power company owns the meter. We own the meter base, the mast and the wiring on your side. For a raise, the power company moves the meter and we move everything it connects to.

How long will the power be off?

The electrical work often takes a day or two. The longer wait is usually the inspection and the power company’s reconnect, and both schedules are theirs. We tell you what we hear the day we hear it.

What does the survey visit cost?

The visit has a fee, and we tell you what it is when you book. If you go ahead with the work, the fee comes off the total. The estimate that follows is written and is open for 30 days.

Are you licensed and insured, and how do I check?

Yes. The license and insurance are listed at the foot of every page. You can look up the license with the state board, and we will send our insurance certificate before work starts.

Do you do emergency work?

We do not take calls overnight. Calls and texts are answered first thing in the morning. For fire or danger to anyone, call 911, then the power company.

How do I send photos?

Text them to (251) 555-0100. Send the panel with the door open if it is dry and safe, the meter, the mast and the waterline on the wall. We read them in the order they arrive.

Still have a question?

Call or text, and we will answer it.
